There is need to address the legal issues of e-transactions to build enduring relationships with online customers in any business. For the business world, electronic contracts and storage of online information should be embraced under these laws, so that the safety and protection of these records can be ensured. In order to complete any kind of transaction over internet through any kind of electronic device, some legal requirements should be compiled with the actions such as integrity, digital signature, etc. (Raghu Santanam, Sethumadhavan & Virendra, 2011). It is also imperative for the parties of e-contract to gain knowledge about the terms and conditions and differentiate it from the regulations of traditional contracts. In both cases, conditions and terms affect the consequences of the business deal.

Cyber crime causes e-commerce websites to lose money and lose of customers’ confidence in their business operations. It has been evaluated in many reports that many e-commerce business firms suffer due to cyber crimes, such as stealing money, damaged reputation, lost of private information, etc. Thus, it is also significant for the e-commerce firms to update their knowledge about cyber laws and cyber crimes to ensure safe transaction and storage of data and information (Clarkson, Miller & Jentz, 2006). It is very necessary to follow cyber laws regarding e-contract like terms of usage, Escrow agreements, etc. In addition to this, these laws should also be followed in different agreements such as software services, transfer of domain name, copyright and patents, etc. (Miller & Jentz, 2009). Social networking sites are used as powerful tools of promotion thus, it is also important for the users of these networking sites to understand the terms and conditions before sharing personal and private information on these sites. Several social networking sites have made a rule of terminating the account in case of violation of rules and policies to protect the data and information and it also lead to lawsuits. Apart from this, some social networking site have right to use all the content posted by users, thus it is essential to read terms and conditions of these networks (Iia, Scott & Jacka, 2011). All this would directly affect the policies of the company, for instance, although company is not sharing customer’s private information with others, but if this information is shared by the social networking sites as they can use all the contents. It directly affects the working policies of the company and its brand image in negative manner. It also questions the integrity of site.

Outcome can lead to lawsuits (Breakenridge, 2012). Therefore, marketers should understand the legal issues and terms of each website before using these sites as promotional channels. Identity theft is also a serious problem at this time. Recently, in order to do fraud or commit any criminal activities, someone can use personal identifying information as illegal source and without taking consent of the person. With this kind of crime, several laws has been introduced such as laws for privacy and personal data and information, laws for false representation and identification, theft laws for stealing personal identity of others, etc. With the assistance of these kinds of laws, it would be easy to specify the different type of criminal activities and taking further action. These laws also protect victim and other people that how criminals focus on the collection of personal information and use this information in illegal way (Hammond, 2003). In addition to this, these laws also make it easy for victims to get adequate compensation and reimbursements for their sufferings and troubles from the offense (Hayward, 2004).

For instance, here is a case that is related to cyber crime act. According to this case, a fine of $12 mm has been enforced by FTC as the privacy policies of the firm has failed to protect data and information. These charges are posed by FTC on Life Lock Inc., which is an Arizona company because in regard to the protection of data and information, company has explained false measurement and made false promises. The management team of Life Lock advertises has promoted the firm as the best solution to get security measures and protection of identity theft. In addition to this, company has guaranteed to the customers to provide fraud alerts for the protection of personal information and data. However the company has abortive its promises and failed to provide protection from identity theft, so a case was filed by FTC by clamming that firm was misleading customers and not able to provide security from identity theft as per their advertisements and promotions. As a result, Life Lock and its committee ensure in a settlement agreement of Federal District Court that it would never advertise false information and mislead it clients (Cyber Law Currents, 2010). Apart from this, company has also ensured that it will introduce an information security program, so that it can assure the customers for the protection and security of their personal data. Moreover, this program will also helpful for the customers to maintain confidentiality about the information of customers at high extent. Company has also given $12 mm to FTC as claimed fine.

It is also a reimbursement amount for FTC as it addressed a serious issue and took corrective measurement to resolve it. Apart from this, company also settled for auditing and compliance and of rules and regulations for next 20 years. It is a good example for all the firms to follow the website policies and to take corrective steps (Cyber Law Currents, 2010). As a result, the decision of this case was correct as it supports the cyber laws and also creates an example for cyber criminals that misrepresentations and false leading can cause huge loss in term of money and reputation. Thus, companies should post real and actual information on website with detail privacy measurements, so that customers can get true information. There is no right of any one to advertise false commitments on internet or website. The disclosure should be placed in close proximity to its corresponding claim, so as to make an obvious connection between the two. But, company failed to fulfill its claims to the customer that caused to punishment. A privacy policy states how you will respect the privacy of your website users. It includes the information, use of the information, and safety of the information. On the basis of all evidences, it could be said that decision of the federal court was according to crime committed by the company. Thus, all the e-commerce firms should comply with the cyber laws and consumers should also have knowledge about these laws to protect from any activity of cyber crime.
