Human Resources Decision Making Strategies Answer 1 Strategies Following are strategies associated with rightsizing: Permanent Downsizing: This strategy is used by companies, when they find that particular job of employee is not adding value to the productivity of the company. Along with this, when there is no need of any job function or the employee is not performing according to the par, the company adopts permanent downsizing strategy (Welter, 2011). This strategy involves ethical issues, as if the employee is for longer term with the company and needs the job; it may result into ethical issue for the company. Temporary Layoffs: Company adopts this strategy of right-sizing when they are going under buyout or any management change. Along with this, the company may also need the employee to hire again due to their services (Smit, 2000). This strategy also creates ethical issue, as there may be ethical dilemma for the company to layoff the particular employee from the post. Part Time Employment: Companies that analyze the work of some employees does not fulfill their full time job position requirements. So, under these conditions, they adopt part time employment for the employees. It is used, when the employees are not able to justify their job. Part time employment is generally used by the small companies, who do not need full time positions to cost related limitations. This strategy may also involve ethical issues, as the employee may think that work done by him is not worth enough for the company. Contract Labor: Company adopts this strategy of right-sizing when there is need of hiring the employees on periodic basis. This strategy helps in maximizing the efficiency of business, as it requires the payment of only work done by the hired individuals (Smit, 2000). Along with this, the cost of contracted employee is higher than the permanent employees, as they are paid on hourly basis by the company. Furthermore, this strategy is more effective for the company, as it pays the organization in long run. It is so, as the company only needs to pay the employees only on hourly basis and does not required to pay them employee benefits that are needed in case of permanent employees. This strategy may also involve ethical issue, as the company can terminate the contract as and when required. So, it may create ethical issues for the company.

Answer 2 Reasonability Voluntary turnover can be defined as the process of leaving the organization by the individuals with their choice. It occurs due to various reasons like job dissatisfaction, lack of fitting with the organizational culture, conflict with superiors or boss etc (Thomas). Voluntary turnover is considered unreasonable for most of organizations, but there are several conditions, when there is need of voluntary turnover. For example, in healthcare organizations, the rate of voluntary turnover is higher as compared to other industries. It is so, as according to the employees or staff members of healthcare organizations, the environment of these workplaces is toxic. So, if the environment is not good for the employees, it is reasonable to adopt medium level voluntary turnover. It will help the staff members to secure better job position in other healthcare organizations. Along with this, it will also provide chance to the particular healthcare organization to adopt required actions in order to address the identified issues due to which, the employees decide to leave the organization. If the healthcare organization is unable to provide team-based collaborative culture to the staff members, a medium level voluntary turnover is reasonable. In addition, if the employees are not valued in the healthcare organization, it is reasonable to have voluntary turnover (Thomas).   References Smit, P.J. (2000). Strategic Planning: Readings.
